The Portland International Auto Show took place January 26-29, 2012 at the Oregon Convention Center. The event attracted major global automakers and guests from all over the Northwest. The emphasis this year was on green technology, fuel efficiency, and economy. It was the second year that the show featured the largest Eco Center in the nation, showcasing eco-friendly vehicles. Chevy’s lineup of fuel efficient vehicles included the Volt, Cruze Eco, Sonic, and 2013 Spark, to name a few. The Volt once again drew crowds for its unsurpassed technology and sporty style.
In the main GM area the entire Chevy lineup was on display. Guests were allowed to sit in cars ranging from the new Chevy Sonic to the limited addition 100th Anniversary Corvette. Chevrolet service vehicles were also present, including the Caprice, released in the US exclusively for police use. An awe worthy Silverado was on display, commemorating the first responders of 9/11.
Crowds flooded into the luxury vehicle section where they could see, among others, Callaway Cars. A Corvette, Camaro, and Tahoe were supercharged using Callaway’s state of the art technology and onlookers admired the superior engines and asked questions to the Callaway Specialist on site.
The Auto Show rapped up January 29th and boasted higher than ever attendance. We look forward to next year.
GM enters the mini-car market with the Chevy Spark. They unveiled four, 12 foot, cuties at the LA Auto Show, sporting a variety of candy colors from Salsa to Disco.
The Spark packs a 1.2 liter four-cylinder engine, delivers 85 horsepower and 82 ft-lbs of torque. But don’t be too quick to judge the power of the Spark the light weight gives the car better than expected get up and go, while delivering 40+ highway MPG and 30+ city MPG.
Chevy was not chintzy with the features on this little car. In fact the Spark is packed with technology like, a 7-inch touchscreen on the center console, standard air conditioning and power windows, and Bluetooth/Pandora connectivity.
The Spark will be priced below the Chevy Sonic though; official pricing has not been released. The spunky Spark will be a welcomed addition to the Chevy line-up when it is released this summer.
