Oregon Winter Activities

Posted on 21 January 2013 by Grace

Oregonians are known for their love of the outdoors. Even the cold Northwest winters can’t keep them cooped up inside. Here are three fun ways to enjoy the Oregon winter.

Stay at Crater Lake

One of the most beautiful National Parks is located right here in Oregon, Crater Lake. There are no shortage of ways to enjoy this great American treasure. Whether you like winter camping or cozy lodges, sweat-inducing activities like snowshoeing and cross country skiing or simply chilling by the fire with a beautiful view, Crater Lake certainly has something for everyone.

This park is the perfect distance for a weekend getaway but has enough activites to keep you entertained for a week.

Hike at Mount Tabor

If you’re a Portland resident and the winter weather has you yearning for the outdoors why not go for a hike. Sure, it might be muddy, but hiking in winter is a worthwhile pursuit. Put on a pair of sturdy boots and find some of the best hiking trails in Portland.

Mount Tabor has everything a park should; picnic tables, playgrounds, an off-leash dog area, hiking trails, and incredible views. This park is conveniently located in the city of Portland and is the perfect escape on a day off. The Park is located at SE 60th and Salmon Street. There’s an entrance there, or you can also park on SE Lincoln Street (near 51st)

Sled at Little John Snow Play Area

It may not be snowing in Portland but that doesn’t mean you can’t drive to a winter wonderland. Head to Little John Snow Play Area located 11 miles north of the Hwy26/Hwy35 junction and enjoy free sledding at this developed sno-park.

Little John sno-park is one of the only non-commercial places in the area. It was configured during summer to offer a good sleding hill during winter. On a nice day hundreds gather to enjoy the park.

No matter where you are headed this winter remember to drive safe and have fun!
